Housing Policies

Housing Policies

The housing policy in Jordan has been characterized by integration with the country's economic development strategies, aiming to provide secure housing for all segments of society. Being committed to meeting the growing demand for housing that aligns with income levels and living conditions, the government's intervention in the housing sector manifested as contributions that shaped the general framework for the housing policy in Jordan.

The direct government involvement in housing policy began in 1965 with the establishment of the Housing Corporation. This entity initially provided housing loans and later engaged in the construction of apartments and housing units in urban centers and rural areas in Jordan. The Housing Corporation also initiated projects for the resettlement of Bedouins, functional housing projects, and facilitated financing with subsidized repayment conditions for its beneficiaries, especially so given the fact that most of these beneficiaries are low to middle income government employees. Those projects covered all regions of the kingdom.
